The Branches

Jo, Happy New Year! Some people pick a word, intention, do goal setting…do you do any of those? Something different?

Hello/Goodbye as a process - helps me get a word and shapes the goals I’ll set for the year.

I’ve titled this episode “Olive Us Recalibrate” because even if we do none of the “pick a word” or “goal setting” traditions, it’s fair to say the turn on the calendar and a new year is a chance to recalibrate.  Note: Recalibrate: change the way you do or think about something.

Jo, what are some things you’ll be recalibrating in 2025?

Physically:  This year, I fell in love with alpha  Strength and conditioning - I probably need to get more into flexibility…and consider some menopausal habits.

Mentally: Pondering that one - but some thought patterns might need some attention.

Spiritually: Last year, I read the history books all year. I need to mix in some NT because IT GOT REAL. But I am drawn to the major and minor prophets.

Relationally: I’m praying about who to invest in and friendships. Also, we’re empty nesters this year, so hubby and I have been talking a lot about that.

What about your career/work life?

Thinking about my writing life and what it means to resource people. Also thinking about what I need to do to develop as a leader.

Why is it essential for us to have some rhythm or practice of recalibrating/taking inventory of our lives?

The unexamined life is A WHOLE PROBLEM. We repeat patterns and miss cues.

At Ezer 2024, the theme was “Leadership & Power.” You can’t talk about leadership and power without talking about “abuse of power,” unfortunately. How do women leaders recalibrate after wounding in the workplace due to misuse of power?

Heal. Reflect. Plan.

The Olive Tree

Finish these statements:

God is…Kind.

Recalibration in our lives is necessary because…the unexamined life is a crapshoot friends.

‘Olive Us’ are better when…we have healthy people around us.
